​In Alaska, book banning has primarily occurred at the local level, with significant actions taken by the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District (MSBSD):​

• April 2023: The MSBSD removed 56 books from school libraries, including classics like The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison and Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut, citing concerns over content deemed inappropriate. 

• August 2024: U.S. District Court Judge Sharon Gleason issued a preliminary injunction, ordering the MSBSD to return all but seven of the removed books to library shelves by August 14, 2024, ruling that the removal likely violated students' First Amendment rights. ​(ALKA)
